Description of intervention

The Basilica of San Prospero (Church of San Prospero) is located in the historic center of Reggio Emilia, Italy. It is dedicated to the city’s patron saint. It underwent some restoration works that also involved upgrading the old hot-air heating system fueled by a direct-flame diesel-powered generator. Torreggiani & C., with the aim of safeguarding the existing floor and its historical value, and meeting the need for the occasional use of the heating system and controlling running costs, built and installed an all-air system. In order to avoid heat stratification and the formation of natural air circulation with marked updrafts, the system was built with low fluid temperatures and large air flows. The appropriate placement of air diffusion systems allowed to cancel the vertical thermal gradient in the environment. Furthermore, the oil tank was reclaimed to make room for a thermal substation fed by the city district heating system.
